The Pain
For most of my adult life, i have struggled with anxiety, and caffeine did not really help. So to manage it, I set a rule that i am unable to drink any caffeine after 12pm - and i have suffered a lot of times the next morning from breaking that rule.
However with matcha, none of those rules applied. Since i didn't think of it as a source of caffeine, it was always a mid-day pick me up since i just loved the taste so much.
But strangely the caffeine for matcha affects me more than a regular cup of coffee. Which is when i realised that a 3g of matcha has almost up to 176mg of caffeine, that is more caffeine than in 2 cups of redbull or even almost 3 shots of espresso.
Since decaf coffee existed, so naturally i thought decaf matcha would too. Nothing. One evening over a shared takeaway with a friend, i asked the question that started everything "What if i sold decaf matcha?"
The Name
We went through a handful of options but none of them really resonated with us. Then i decided to write my chinese name enle (恩乐).
And enle matcha was born.
Since then I spent a year, contacting those i know in Japan, having back to back conversations with growers in Japan, tasting samples, learning all about matcha because I was determined to provide an option to those who struggled with caffeine like i did.
The bigger reason
As more people than ever face issues with anxiety, overthinking and stress related issues. We recognize this and want to help a generation that feels like they can’t find happiness anymore.
enle comes from the chinese character’s 恩乐 and it stands for happiness that stems from or is accompanied by a sense of gratefulness and kindness.
Decaf matcha is therefore you can against hustle culture, to take a step back and focus on how we can do less and focus on what we take for granted.
Every cup of enle is a gift to yourself that you chose yourself first without compromise. It is proof that you don't have to choose.
